What began as a somber farewell to a young woman whose life was tragically cut short turned into a double tragedy on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Mourners attending the burial of Yaa Baby, the late girlfriend of popular Ghanaian social media influencer GH Kobby, were involved in a fatal accident at Kumasi’s ITP Junction — an incident that reportedly claimed multiple lives.
An eyewitness footage that surfaced online shows mourners dressed in black and red funeral attires, packed into a pickup vehicle, preparing to leave for the cemetery.
Shortly after, another video emerged showing the aftermath: the same pickup truck overturned with several passengers either trapped or fleeing the wreck.
Some survivors were helped out of the mangled vehicle by bystanders, while others lay motionless.
Although official confirmation is yet to be released, unverified reports suggest that at least four people lost their lives in the crash.
The victims were among those mourning the passing of Yaa Baby, compounding the pain already felt by friends, family, and fans of the late young woman.
Tragic Death of Yaa Baby
Yaa Baby, whose real name has not been publicly disclosed, died under distressing circumstances nearly a month earlier on June 10, 2025. She was reportedly shot during a confrontation involving GH Kobby, who was said to have pulled out a firearm from his luxury vehicle and discharged it in the air as a warning. One of the bullets allegedly struck Yaa Baby in the left arm.
GH Kobby rushed her to St. Mathias Hospital, Yeji in the Bono East, but she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
The incident led to the arrest of GH Kobby and two of his close associates, including a man known popularly as Obolo.
While investigations into the shooting are still ongoing, Obolo was released from police custody in late June.
The family of Yaa Baby, following cultural rites and procedures, scheduled her burial for July 5, which tragically ended in yet another catastrophe.
The online community has been left heartbroken and in disbelief.
Videos of both the accident and the funeral have circulated on TikTok and other platforms, prompting an outpouring of grief and calls for greater road safety measures.
At the burial ceremony itself, emotions ran high.
Yaa Baby’s mother was seen inconsolable, surrounded by mourners trying to comfort her amid the fresh heartbreak.
What should have been a moment of closure for the family has now become an enduring nightmare.
