77th Anniversary Of Christianburg Crossroad Shooting Marked

The government has commemorated the 77th anniversary of the Christianburg Crossroad Shooting, a pivotal event in Ghana’s struggle for independence.

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang led a delegation of government officials, including Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah and Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mubarak, to the Nationalism Park in Osu, Accra, for the ceremony.

The event honored the memories of three ex-servicemen – Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey – who were brutally murdered by colonial police in 1948.

The three men were marching to the Osu Castle to present a petition to the then Governor, Sir Gerald Creasy, when they were killed.

The flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony is an annual event that pays tribute to the sacrifices of these three men and the country’s struggle for independence.

The Mahama government’s commemoration of this event demonstrates its commitment to honoring Ghana’s history and the heroes who fought for its freedom.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the government’s dedication to preserving Ghana’s history and promoting national unity.

She emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the past and working towards a brighter future for all Ghanaians.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including government officials, traditional leaders, and representatives of the Ghana Armed Forces.
