Bawumia Charges NPP MPs To Unite For Victory 2028

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana and a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the party’s MPs to unite and work towards victory in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at a workshop organized by the NPP Minority Caucus at the Kwahu-Nkwatia Rock City Hotel, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for unity and discipline within the party.

The programme was attended by the caucus, former MPs and as well as for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo among others.

“Soon, we shall start the process of reorganising… I want to urge you all to remain disciplined and keep our eye on the big picture in this process,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia commended the backbenchers and first-timers among the Minority MPs for their sterling performances, saying they had “qualitatively proven their inclusion.”

He also appreciated the leadership and continuing MPs for giving the backbenchers the platform to shine.

The former Vice President expressed his gratitude to the Minority MPs for their hard work and sacrifice during the difficult moments of the 2024 campaign.

“You were in the trenches with me and the party… I don’t take it for granted that you have kept with the NPP and with me and gone out to do battle for us. God bless you for your sacrifice,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that the party did not win the 2024 elections, but expressed confidence that with unity and hard work, the NPP would bounce back in 2028.

“In unity and common purpose, in less than 4 years, Ghanaians will take a decision to bring us back at the 2028 polls,” he said.

He also admitted that not everything was perfect during the NPP’s tenure in office, but assured the Minority that the party was taking advantage of the current period to strengthen its resolve and implement reforms.

“I assure you that for all these lessons and reforms, I, Mahamudu Bawumia, will stand with the rank and file of our great party as we implement them,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia described the Minority MPs as the most formidable wing of the NPP, saying they had proven themselves in the last few months of the 9th parliament.

“Your dedication and diligence in keeping the NDC government on their toes have been highly commendable,” he said.

He likened the Minority MPs to the Minority of the 2nd Parliament led by J.H. Mensah, saying the party would be forever grateful to them.

“I call you The Mighty Minority of 88 Infantry Battalion, commanded by Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for unity within the party, saying that divisions among NPP members had been exploited by their opponents in the past.

“What we need most at this point is unity… Let’s unite and work towards victory in 2028,” he said.
