Chinese Murder Suspect Granted Bail

In a dramatic turn of events, a Chinese national, Dai Mengsheng, who was facing murder charge, has been granted police inquiry bail by the Takoradi District Court.

According to court documents, Mengsheng’s bail was set at GH¢500,000, with three sureties, one of whom must be justified.

As part of the bail conditions, his passport has been seized by the police to ensure his presence during court proceedings.

The case against Mengsheng began on February 14, 2025, when he was arrested in Tarkwa, following a complaint lodged by businessman David Anthony Nicol-Sey, a resident of Takoradi.

After his arrest, Mengsheng was transferred to the Regional Police Command in Sekondi for further investigations.

He was initially charged with preparation to commit murder, specifically murder, under Sections 19 and 46 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The charge was based on legal advice from the Attorney General’s office in Sekondi.

The bill of indictment, a key document outlining the charges against him, is expected to be ready for submission to the High Court within the next two to three weeks.
