Liverpool’s four-match losing streak came to an end in emphatic fashion as they thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Hugo Ekitike played a starring role, scoring against his former club and inspiring his team to a convincing comeback victory.
The match got off to a rocky start for Liverpool, with Frankfurt taking the lead in the 26th minute through Rasmus Kristensen.
However, the Reds quickly responded, with Ekitike equalizing 10 minutes before halftime.
The striker’s finish was clinical, racing onto Andy Robertson’s excellent pass and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.
A Turning Point
The equalizer marked a turning point in the match, as Liverpool began to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities.
Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate added two more goals before halftime, both from headers, to give Liverpool a 3-1 lead.
The Reds continued to press in the second half, with Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai adding further goals to seal a 5-1 victory.
A Much-Needed Win
The win was much-needed for Liverpool, who had lost four consecutive games across all competitions, including a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Reds had made a blistering start to the season, winning their first seven games, but had struggled to find form in recent weeks.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s decision to start Ekitike alongside Alexander Isak paid off, despite Isak’s early exit with a groin injury.
Next Steps
The victory sets Liverpool up for their upcoming match against Real Madrid on November 4, 2025. With this win, Liverpool will look to build momentum and challenge for top spot in the Champions League group stage.
