American rapper and philanthropist Ja Rule has arrived in Ghana, accompanied by his wife, to reaffirm his commitment to education.
The couple’s visit comes ahead of the commissioning of a six-unit classroom block for Nuaso Anglican Primary School in the Eastern Region, a project initiated by Ja Rule last year in partnership with the non-profit organization Pencils of Promise (PoP).
Ja Rule’s connection to Ghana dates back to 2018 when he first visited the country.
Since then, he has been actively involved in various philanthropic efforts, including education and healthcare initiatives.
His commitment to education is particularly noteworthy, as he believes that it is the key to unlocking the potential of young people.
During his current visit, Ja Rule took a private tour of Ghana’s National Museum, where he reflected on the significance of the project and his deepening connection to Ghana.
“Education is something I’m really passionate about,” he said. “Beyond classrooms, I want to build more facilities, including a gymnasium and other extracurricular spaces that will enhance learning for these kids.”
A Deep Connection to Ghana
Ja Rule’s love for Ghanaian culture is evident in his music and public statements.
He has often spoken about the importance of African culture and its impact on the global stage.
During his museum tour, he was particularly moved by the history of slavery, describing the experience as heartbreaking.
“It broke my heart,” he admitted, emphasizing the importance of remembering history while working toward a brighter future.
Ja Rule’s connection to Ghana is not limited to his philanthropic efforts; he has also been exploring opportunities for musical collaborations with Ghanaian artists.
When asked about his music, Ja Rule hinted at a possible Afrobeats collaboration, acknowledging the genre’s rapid global rise.
“I actually did something, a collaboration with a Ghanaian artist, more than 15 years ago,” he revealed. “But Afrobeats is big now, and the sound is starting to gravitate and take control. Maybe I might hop on.”
Describing his own musical journey in three words, he said: “Promising, tough, and fulfilling.”
Ja Rule’s music career spans over two decades, with hits like “Livin’ It Up” and “Always on Time.”
