Controversy has erupted over the alleged assault of a police officer by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, following public comments by Kevin Taylor, activist of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) urging the government to prosecute the lawmaker.
The matter has intensified after Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, confirmed on social media that a docket titled The Republic v Alexander Afenyo-Markin is currently at the Office of the Attorney-General awaiting prosecutorial review and a decision on whether to proceed to court.
According to Srem Sai, the case revolves around a complaint of assault.
Kevin Taylor’s statement appears to have triggered a strong response from political circles.
In a public post, a senior political figure criticized Srem Sai, describing the Deputy Attorney-General as “unserious” and questioning the wisdom of making the case public before any formal review.
The post highlighted concerns over Sai’s approach, suggesting that commenting on an ongoing docket could be politically dangerous and indicative of a lack of emotional intelligence necessary for his office.
