What began as a troubled young love story in Koforidua has ended in tragedy after 29-year-old mobile phone dealer, Daniel Omane, died from injuries sustained in an acid attack allegedly carried out by his live-in girlfriend, 26-year-old Vera Akosua Asare.
The shocking incident has not only gripped the Eastern Region but also sparked widespread concern about growing domestic violence cases rooted in jealousy and unresolved relationship conflicts.
From Romance to Tragedy
Daniel and Vera had been in a relationship for several years, with Vera eventually moving in with him after the birth of their daughter, now two years old.
Initially, their union appeared stable, but cracks reportedly began to appear when Vera started accusing Daniel of being unfaithful.
Sources close to the couple revealed that Vera frequently confronted Daniel over suspected affairs with other women.
Their once loving relationship became increasingly volatile, marked by repeated quarrels and tension.
Feeling overwhelmed by the situation, Daniel reportedly decided to end the relationship.
This decision, however, appeared to have devastating consequences.
The Fatal Night
According to eyewitnesses, the horrifying incident occurred late at night while Daniel was asleep.
Vera, reportedly still living in the house despite the breakup, allegedly poured acid on him as he lay in bed.
Daniel’s screams of agony woke up neighbors, who rushed to the scene only to find Vera attempting to flee.
The community quickly apprehended her and handed her over to the Police, while others arranged for an emergency evacuation of Daniel to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
Due to the severity of his burns, Daniel was transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where doctors fought to save his life.
Unfortunately, despite intensive care efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
