Kufuor, Akufo-Addo Join Mahama At Jubilee House For 68th Independence Celebration

In a historic show of unity, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo joined President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House to celebrate Ghana’s 68th Independence Day.

This rare gathering of past and present leaders underscored the significance of the occasion and the shared commitment to Ghana’s growth and development.

During their respective tenures, John Agyekum Kufuor and Akufo-Addo celebrated Independence Day with grand festivities, hosting international dignitaries and showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

John Kufuor, President from 2001 to 2009, was known for his efforts to promote Ghana’s history and national pride.
He hosted the famous Ghana at 50 celebrations, during which he built Jubilee Parks across the country.

In the era of President Akufo-Addo, who served from 2017 to 2025, he continued this tradition, using the occasion to highlight Ghana’s progress and challenges.

He also took the occasion across the regions, as it’s been hosted in the Regional capitals.

In 2021, then President Akufo-Addo also held the 64th Independence Day Celebration at the Jubilee House due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

In contrast, President Mahama’s decision to host the celebration at the Jubilee House marked a departure from tradition.

The event was scaled down to reduce costs and promote fiscal responsibility, reflecting the current economic challenges facing the nation.

President John Mahama emphasized the importance of prudent resource management and fiscal discipline, stating that the country must prioritize its spending and make sacrifices to ensure a brighter future.

Despite the differences in approach, the presence of John Kufuor and Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House highlighted the importance of national unity and the shared commitment to Ghana’s development.

The occasion served as a reminder of the country’s rich history and the progress made towards independence, as well as the challenges that still lie ahead.
