Martin Kpebu Blasts NIB For Arresting Gifty Oware-Mensah

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has strongly cautioned the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over the arrest of Gifty Oware-Mensah, former Deputy Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA).

Kpebu warned that if the NIB holds Oware-Mensah for more than 48 hours without charging her, they will be sued for violating her rights.

Gifty Owware-Mensah was taken into custody on Friday, March 7, 2025, in connection with a suspected payroll fraud at the NSA.

Her arrest was part of an ongoing investigation into a ghost-name scandal that has drawn national attention.

Martin Kpebu emphasized that while he wants Gifty Oware-Mensah to face justice, it is unjust to hold her for more than 48 hours without due process.

Martin Kpebu’s warning comes amid concerns about the NIB’s handling of Oware-Mensah’s case.

The NIB had reportedly asked Oware-Mensah to provide the receipt of her wristwatch as a condition for bail, a demand widely criticized as unreasonable and an attempt to harass her.

The investigation into the NSA payroll scandal has been ongoing, with several individuals suspected of involvement.

Kwaku Ohene Gyan, former Deputy Director of Operations at NSA, was arrested on February 22, 2025, and is currently in custody.

Martin Kpebu’s intervention highlights the need for the NIB to follow due process and respect the rights of suspects.
