Nana Ama Dokua Sues TikToker For Defamation

Former Deputy Minister and ex-Member of Parliament, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, has taken a bold step to clear her name and seek justice.

Nana Ama Dokua has filed a lawsuit against TikToker Sophia Ocansey, CEO of S.O Herbal Centre, over defamatory remarks made on TikTok and other platforms.

According to court documents, Ocansey allegedly made “untrue, false, malicious, vexatious, defamatory and unfounded statements” against Dokua, which quickly spread on social media.

The writ states that these statements were “purposefully geared towards damaging and tarnishing the hard-won reputation of the plaintiff.”

Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei’s lawyers contend that these defamatory statements have subjected her to public ridicule and eroded her standing in both political and business circles.

The plaintiff who served as Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, is demanding GHS5 million in damages.

She is also seeking a retraction and an unconditional apology from Ocansey.

In a statement, Asiamah-Adjei’s lawyers emphasized that their client has “never been engaged in any crime or declared wanted by any investigative body at any point in time in the entirety of her life.”

This lawsuit comes at a time when social media defamation cases are on the rise in Ghana.

In a related development, Asiamah-Adjei has threatened legal action against journalist Kweku Annan over allegations made on his show, The Frontline.
Annan claimed that Asiamah-Adjei had been declared wanted by the Ghana Police in connection with a crime involving the publication of nudity.
Asiamah-Adjei’s lawyers have dismissed these claims as “malicious, untrue and purposely calculated.”
