Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has launched a scathing attack on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over its appointment process, likening it to sharing groundnuts among favorites.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Effutu MP, expressed his disappointment with the NDC’s internal fight, which has rendered some of its MPs irrelevant.
“They started their own internal fight. It’s up to them,” Afenyo-Markin stated. “Even the appointments they are making so far is like a way for Baku. Way for Baku. Way for Baku. Already they are rendering the president a lame duck.”
He emphasized that the appointment process is obvious, with only those who have aligned themselves with the party’s top hierarchy being considered.
“It is obvious the way the appointment is going. We can see. You have to align before you are considered. It is obvious. All the talents, the prominent talents in this chamber, because they have no godfather, they are not being considered,” Afenyo-Markin lamented.
He also pointed out that independent members who have aligned with the NDC majority are being ignored.
“Of the independent members of parliament who align with the NDC majority, not a single one of them has been considered. Not a single one of them has been considered. Boni beng. Boni beng.”
Afenyo-Markin criticized the NDC’s governance style, describing it as a “family and friends government.”
“This is a true family and friends government. You must be a friend to somebody before your name will go. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?” he questioned.
The Minority Leader also expressed concern about the impact of the NDC’s appointment process on its MPs.
“The president says that he has so many MPs, he doesn’t know what to do with them. It is a reason why so many of them are also not entering this chamber. Because he has rendered them redundant. He has rendered them redundant, there is huge frustration,” Afenyo-Markin said.
He questioned how MPs are expected to account to their constituents when the government offers no hope to its own members.
“And he couldn’t come into this chamber to assure Parliament that the members of the majority side, we are not talking about us, you, your side, he couldn’t assure even the majority of constructive engagement for the purposes of governance. Many are desperate. You see them, they don’t know where they are going. Are you going to be on the board? I don’t know”.
“Are you going to be a deputy minister? I don’t know. Mr. Speaker, how should the MPs go and account for their people? Mr. Speaker, this government offers no hope to its own members. If a member of Parliament who is part of the government, who is part of the government, who is part of the government, who is part of the government, who is part of the government, who is part of the government, member of the community. What about the foot soldier? This is the state of hopelessness,” Afenyo-Markin lamented.
However, he concluded that Ghanaians have reglected voting for the NDC since the party members are already disappointed in the government.
