No Dismissal Of Nurses Recruited After December 7, 2016

It has emerged that contrary to claims that the Ghana Health Service (GHS) dismissed health professionals recruited in December 2016, no such action took place in 2017.

There had been allegations that health professionals recruited ahead of the Akufo-Addo administration taking office were laid off.

However the Ghana Health Service provided clarity assuring that there will be no revocation of staff recruited after December 7, 2016.

This follows the massive dismissal of public workers by the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, which the NPP is clarifying in a letter dated March 20, 2017, addressed to all Regional Directors of Health Service that none was sacked after winning the 2016 general elections.

The GHS had earlier suspended the recruitment process in February 2016, leaving many health professionals in limbo.

However, with the latest directive, the GHS instructed to resume the recruitment process for trainees and other health professionals who were granted financial clearance in December 2016.

The letter, signed by Peter Obiri-Yeboah, the then Deputy Director of Human Resource Management, on behalf of the Director of Human Resource Development, emphasized that the recruitment process will proceed without revoking the appointments of staff recruited after December 7, 2016.

This clarification is expected to bring relief to health professionals who were recruited during this period and were uncertain about their employment status.

The Ministry of Health then reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the recruitment process is fair, transparent, and efficient. The GHS has outlined its core values, which include professionalism, teamwork, integrity, innovation, and people-centered service, to guide the recruitment process.
