Parliament’s Health Committee Embarks On Nationwide Hospital Assessment Tour

In a determined effort to assess the state of healthcare facilities across Ghana, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health is set to embark on a four-day nationwide tour of selected regional and teaching hospitals from Tuesday, April 22 to Friday, April 25, 2025.

The move forms part of Parliament’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and service delivery throughout the country.

According to an official communication from Parliament, the initiative aims to evaluate the current operational conditions of various hospitals, identify persistent challenges, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to propose effective solutions that will strengthen the nation’s healthcare delivery system.

As part of this tour, Team Two of the Health Committee will visit four major healthcare facilities in the middle and northern belts of the country.

These include the Damongo Regional Hospital, Techiman Regional Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, and Goaso Regional Hospital.

The team will assess infrastructure, staffing levels, equipment availability, patient experiences, and administrative challenges.

This inspection tour is one of several oversight functions regularly undertaken by the Health Committee, which is tasked with monitoring the implementation of health-related policies and ensuring accountability in the delivery of public health services.

Historically, Parliament has undertaken similar visits, with past assessments revealing gaps such as underfunding, inadequate human resources, obsolete medical equipment, and infrastructural decay in various health facilities.

These findings have frequently led to budgetary recommendations and policy shifts to enhance health service provision.

Stakeholders in the health sector, including regional health directors, hospital administrators, and community leaders, are expected to meet with the committee members during the tour to share insights and propose local solutions.

This latest mission reaffirms Parliament’s role in not only enacting laws but also ensuring that healthcare policies are effectively executed to meet the needs of all Ghanaians.
