In a show of appreciation for the pivotal role of mothers in society, Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Sammi Awuku, together with the Yes She Can Foundation, marked this year’s Mother’s Day with a community-focused celebration in Obum, a locality within the Constituency.

The event, which took place over the weekend, was organized in collaboration with the Yes She Can Foundation, a women-focused non-governmental organization headed by Awuku’s wife, Mary Awuku.

It featured a range of impactful activities aimed at improving the lives of women in the community.

Highlights included free health screenings, educational health talks, the distribution of gift items, and the presentation of seed capital to selected women to either support or start their small-scale businesses.

In a statement shared following the event, Sammi Awuku expressed gratitude to the Foundation and all stakeholders who helped bring the initiative to fruition.

“It was a heartwarming day filled with love, care, and purpose,” he said.

“The joy on their faces and the strength in their stories reminded us of the true essence of motherhood – resilience, grace, and hope.”

This is not the first time the Awukus have spearheaded such community empowerment efforts.

Over the past few years, the Yes She Can Foundation has rolled out multiple interventions aimed at improving maternal health, encouraging women’s entrepreneurship, and providing educational support across parts of the Eastern Region.

Sunday’s event adds to a growing list of grassroots outreach programs driven by the couple’s commitment to social impact.

Looking ahead, Sammi Awuku expressed optimism that the ongoing journey to uplift the Akuapem area would attract broader support.

“We are hopeful and confident that more NGOs, corporate bodies, and kind-hearted individuals will join hands with us to build stronger, thriving communities,” he noted.

The event not only celebrated the essence of motherhood but also underscored the power of collaborative efforts in fostering development and resilience among rural women.
