Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, has expressed his deep concern about the pervasive negative mindset among Ghanaians.
This sentiment was sparked by the reception of his recent encounter with Nigerian influencer, Peller, whom he offered to assist in traveling to the UK.
Stonebwoy’s gesture was met with skepticism and negativity by some Ghanaians, which he finds troubling.
“It’s heartbreaking and [this negativity from Ghanaians] needs to be addressed because in as much as we can’t wash our dirty linens outside, it’s heartbreaking to realise that in 2025, there’s this level of mentality that is still surrounding us as Ghanaian people,” he lamented.
This is not the first time Stonebwoy has faced criticism from his own people.
He recalled an incident at the Grammy Awards where he interacted with international superstar, Taylor Swift.
Despite the significance of this moment, some Ghanaians responded negatively, which Stonebwoy finds unwarranted.
“You go to the Grammys, you’re connecting with Taylor Swift on the whole carpet, ain’t nobody talking to her, I say hi, we vibe and there was a negative reception by some of the Ghanaian populace”.
“It’s interesting that it becomes the popular narrative, which then destroys the whole quality of what we can churn out of such moments,” he added.
Stonebwoy fears that this negative mindset may discourage Ghanaian artists from seizing global opportunities and building meaningful connections that could elevate the country’s entertainment industry.
He hopes for a shift in mentality, calling on Ghanaians to embrace positivity and support their own.
