In a pulsating Premier League encounter, Liverpool secured a 3-2 win over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time winner from 16-year-old sensation Rio Ngumoha.
Ngumoha’s goal in the 100th minute not only sealed the win for Liverpool but also made him the youngest-ever goalscorer in the club’s history.
Intense Match
The match was marked by intense drama, goals, and controversy, with Newcastle starting the game brightly but wasting several good goal-scoring opportunities.
Liverpool struggled to keep up with the Magpies’ intensity, but Ryan Gravenberch broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a strong shot that took a deflection off Fabian Schar’s foot into the net.
Turning Point
The turning point in the game came just before halftime when Anthony Gordon received a straight red card for a rash tackle on Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool capitalized on the numerical advantage almost immediately, with Hugo Ekitike scoring his second league goal in two games a minute into the second half.
Newcastle’s Fightback
Despite being a man down for most of the match, Newcastle showed great spirit to come back from a 2-0 deficit.
Bruno Guimaraes pulled a goal back in the 57th minute, and substitute William Osula slotted home Newcastle’s equalizer in the 88th minute. However, Ngumoha’s winner sealed the win for Liverpool.
Transfer Saga
The match was also marked by the ongoing transfer speculation surrounding Alexander Isak, who is reportedly the subject of a massive bid from Liverpool.
The Swedish international has not trained with the team and was absent from the squad, fueling the transfer rumors.
Ngumoha’s Historic Goal
Ngumoha’s goal not only sealed the win for Liverpool but also made him the fourth-youngest scorer in Premier League history.
The teenager’s composed finish off a pass from Mohamed Salah was a flash of brilliance that secured all three points for the reigning champions.
