Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang whose sudden illness necessitated in flying her out of the country is said to be responding to treatment.
The Office of the President had confirmed that Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s first female Vice President, was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre- UGMC for urgent medical treatment following a sudden illness that occurred after her work on Friday, March 28, 2025.
She was said to have joined Muslims to break the Friday’s fast before falling ill leading to her hospitalization at UGMC.
According to a statement released by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the Vice President’s condition requires further medical care abroad.
The statement read: “The Vice President will be seeking further medical care abroad, based on expert medical opinion.” Unconfirmed report said she was subsequently flown to the United States for further medical examination.
The announcement of her sudden illness has sent shockwaves through the nation, with many expressing their well-wishes for her swift recovery.
“We wish her a speedy recovery and safe travels as she seeks medical attention abroad,” the statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu continued.
The Office of the President has not disclosed further details regarding the nature of her illness, but the Vice President’s health remains a priority, with government officials pledging to provide updates as necessary.
