Bawumia Salutes Women On International Women’s Day

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana, has joined the global celebration of International Women’s Day, saluting women in Ghana and around the world for their invaluable contributions to humanity.

In a statement, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the indispensable roles women play in society, emphasizing the need to continuously appreciate and honor them with fairness and respect.

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, is a global movement recognizing women’s achievements, struggles, and resilience across all spheres of life.

The day has its roots in the early 20th century, with the first National Women’s Day celebrated in the United States in February 1909.

The day was later adopted by the United Nations in 1975, with the first theme, “Celebrating the Past, Planning for the Future,” introduced in 1996.

This year’s theme, “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” highlights the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the need for collective action to achieve it.

Despite progress made, the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2024 estimates that it will take another 134 years to reach gender parity.

Dr. Bawumia’s statement resonates with the global call to action, emphasizing the importance of treating women with fairness and respect.
