Dumsor Hits KIA, Korle Bu

In a stark reminder of Ghana’s perennial power outages under the previousMahamaadministration, Kotoka International Airport (KIA) suffered a brief power interruption on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, just as the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The outage, which occurred at approximately 17:48 hours, was triggered by the heavy downpour that swept through Accra.

Although the airport’s backup power generating system kicked in as expected, an electrical fault prevented the deployment of power to the terminal.

This technical glitch left passengers stranded, causing disruptions to flight operations and other airport activities.

The power outage lasted for approximately 31 minutes, with power being fully restored at 18:19 hours.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) management has apologized to passengers affected by the brief downtime, reiterating their commitment to providing seamless passenger facilitation at the airport.

The airport, which serves as a critical gateway to Ghana, cannot afford to experience such disruptions, which can have far-reaching consequences on the country’s economy and reputation.

In recent years, Ghana has made significant strides in improving its power generation and distribution infrastructure.

However, the country still grapples with intermittent power outages, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The GACL management has assured passengers that measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
