EC Sacked Deputy Commissioner, Amadu Sulley Is Dead

The Ghanaian political landscape is mourning the loss of Alhaji Amadu Sulley, a former Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), who passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, after a sudden illness.

His demise has sent shockwaves throughout the country, with many paying tribute to his contributions to Ghana’s electoral process.
He was removed as EC deputy commissioner in charge of Operations along with his boss, Charlotte Osei and Madam Georgia Opoku, a deputy chairperson in charge of Corporate Services.

Alhaji Sulley’s background in statistics and public administration made him an ideal candidate for the EC.

He pursued a Diploma in Statistics at the University of Ghana, graduating in 1985, and later obtained a Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 1993 and 1995, respectively.
His project work focused on the Ghanaian electoral system, demonstrating his expertise in the field.

Sulley’s appointment as Deputy Chairman of the EC in 2012 by then-President John Evans Atta Mills marked a significant milestone in his career.

He was the first career electoral officer to be elevated to such a high position, overseeing operations at the EC until his dismissal in June 2018.

During his tenure, Sulley played a crucial role in shaping Ghana’s electoral process, earning him respect from his peers and colleagues.

The late Alhaji Amadu Sulley was laid to rest on Sunday, March 2, at the Madina Muslim Cemetery, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
