Emergency Repairs At Kpong Plant To Disrupt Water Supply In Northeastern Accra

By Grace Zigah

Residents in the northeastern parts of Accra are bracing up for a temporary water supply shutdown as Ghana Water Limited (GWL) prepares for emergency maintenance at the Kpong Water Treatment Plant.

The shutdown, scheduled for Friday, July 4, 2025, will last from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., according to a public notice issued by GWL.

The disruption is a result of urgent repair works deemed necessary to ensure the continued efficiency and safety of the treatment plant, which is a key facility in supplying potable water to large portions of the Greater Accra Region.

The announcement comes as a proactive measure by GWL to minimize the impact on affected communities by giving advance notice to the public.

The areas expected to be affected include Dodowa, Oyarifa, Madina, Adenta, Ashaley Botwe, East Legon, Abokobi, Haatso, Agbogba, Ashongman, and nearby neighborhoods.

GWL has advised residents in these localities to store sufficient water ahead of the shutdown to mitigate any inconvenience during the 12-hour period.

In light of the interruption, GWL has also made provisions for emergency response and support for essential service providers, including hospitals and other critical institutions.

Such entities are urged to contact designated support lines in the event of urgent water needs.

These include a toll-free number (0800 40000) for Vodafone users and additional hotlines—0302 2218240, 0207385089, and 0207385090—as well as WhatsApp lines: 0555123393 and 0555155524.

The water utility company has assured the public that supply will resume immediately upon the completion of the repair works.

“The inconvenience this may cause is deeply regretted,” the statement noted, reinforcing GWL’s commitment to maintaining reliable water services across the capital.
