The latest cabinet appointments by President John Dramani Mahama have provoked controversy, with many Ghanaians expressing concern over the dominance of Ewes and Northerners in key positions.
Out of the 19 cabinet members, 10 are from these two ethnic groups, leading to accusations of tribal politics.
Apart from cabinet ministers, security appointments are also skewed towards the two ethnic groups particularly the northern extracts.
The line up is tall, and more names are popping up.
Critics argue that President Mahama’s cabinet appointments contradict his previous criticisms of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government, which he accused of being dominated by Akans.
Then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) had previously condemned Akufo-Addo’s cabinet appointments, claiming they were biased towards the Akyem and Ashanti ethnic groups.
However, it appears that President John Mahama has adopted a similar approach, with Ewes and Northerners occupying key and juicy positions.
Aside from that, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed mostly Ewes and Northerners including family and friends to juicy positions in Government which has raised concerns by the public.
While Mahama’s supporters argue that the appointments are based on merit, critics claim that the dominance of Ewes and Northerners in key positions is a clear indication of tribal politics.
The controversy surrounding Mahama’s cabinet appointments has sparked a heated debate, with many Ghanaians calling for greater transparency and accountability in the appointment process.
