GEA To Create 250,000 Jobs For Youth

The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) has reaffirmed its commitment to its partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, aimed at driving youth employment and economic growth in Ghana.

The partnership, which targets creating 250,000 dignified and fulfilling jobs for young people in Ghana by 2027, prioritizes inclusion, with 70% of the opportunities reserved for women and 10% for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Background of the Partnership

The GEA and Mastercard Foundation have been working together to support young entrepreneurs and small business owners in Ghana.

The partnership has been instrumental in implementing initiatives such as the BizBox Project, which provides training and support to young entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.

According to the GEA, the partnership has been “life-changing” and instrumental in alleviating poverty across the country.

Visit to Mastercard Foundation Office

The chief Executive Officer of GEA, Margaret Ansei, led a high-powered delegation on a familiarization and working visit to the Mastercard Foundation Ghana office.

During the visit, the GEA delegation expressed profound gratitude to the Mastercard Foundation for its innovative projects, which have transformed the lives of many beneficiaries.

Ansei commended the dedication of the Mastercard Foundation team, led by Country Director Rica Rwigamba, in advancing the shared goal of improving standards of living.

Progress of the BizBox Project

The BizBox Project is a flagship initiative under the GEA-Mastercard Foundation partnership.

The project provides training and support to young entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.

According to the GEA, the project has made significant progress, with many beneficiaries reporting improved business outcomes and increased income.

Youth Employment

The partnership between GEA and Mastercard Foundation is expected to have a significant impact on youth employment in Ghana.

By creating 250,000 jobs for young people, the partnership will contribute to reducing unemployment and poverty among young people in Ghana.

The focus on inclusion, with opportunities reserved for women and PWDs, will also help to promote economic empowerment and social inclusion.
