In a bid to enhance the performance of Ghanaian athletes, the National Sports College has launched a certificate course in Sports Psychology.
The four-day program, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, is a collaborative effort between the National Sports College and the National Sports Authority.
According to Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, sports psychology has played a significant role in the success of athletes worldwide.
He emphasized the importance of coaches understanding the psychological aspects of training, citing instances where athletes experience stage fright due to lack of exposure to large crowds or international competition.
The course aims to equip athletes, coaches, and sports administrators with the necessary psychological tools to optimize performance.
Bawah Fuseini, acting Director General of the National Sports College, noted that Ghana has reached a point where talent alone is insufficient to achieve success.
He stressed the need to incorporate sports psychology into training programs to gain a competitive edge.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s sports development.
The National Sports College plans to offer more courses in the future, providing opportunities for individuals who missed the maiden edition to participate later in the year.
The introduction of sports psychology in Ghana’s sports development framework is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s athletic performance.
