In a move to celebrate Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, President John Dramani Mahama has directed mobile network operators to offer discounted data packages to citizens.
This directive is part of efforts to promote digital accessibility and make internet services more affordable for Ghanaians.
The special Independence Day bundle offers 6GB of data for GHS10, with a validity period of 72 hours.
This is a significant increase from the usual 1GB or 3GB offered for the same price.
The bundle is available for purchase from March 6, 2025, and is exclusive to prepaid customers.
The initiative was made possible through discussions between the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations (MoCDTI), the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the chief executive officers of mobile network operators, including MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana.
Sam Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, commended the mobile network operators for their gesture, emphasizing that it strengthens the collaboration between the government and operators in their ongoing efforts to reset the industry.
To ensure good quality for the use of the enhanced holiday bundles, the NCA has granted additional spectrum at no cost to MTN and Telecel for the full 72-hour period.
