The New Patriotic Party, NPP, Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako, has taken to social media to correct a banking expert, Dr. Richmond Akwasi Atuahene, for allegedly misquoting economic figures.
According to Gideon Boako, Dr. Atuahene claimed in an interview on Peace FM that the total Treasury bills borrowing for January to February was less than GHC67 billion, which Boako disputes.
The former Spokesperson for Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, explained that the total Treasury bills borrowing reached GHC59 billion on February 21st, and the subsequent T-bill auction on February 28th added GHC7.4 billion, bringing the total to GHC67 billion.
He provided evidence from the Bank of Ghana website and shared a PDF copy of the document to support his claim.
Dr Gideon Boako expressed disappointment that Dr. Atuahene did not take the time to update himself on the correct figures before sharing misinformation on public radio.
He emphasized that it is essential for experts to provide accurate information to avoid deceiving the public.
The correction comes at a time when Ghana’s economic figures are under scrutiny.
The Bank of Ghana’s data shows that the country’s Treasury bills borrowing has been increasing, with the latest auction reaching GHC7.4 billion.
The accuracy of economic figures is crucial for informed decision-making, and Boako’s correction highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it with the public.
