Heavy Rainstorm Leaves Thousands In Darkness In Accra

A severe rainstorm swept through Accra and its environs on Tuesday evening, March 25, 2025, leaving a trail of destruction and disruption in its wake.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that the storm caused outages within its network, plunging thousands of homes and businesses into darkness.

According to a statement released by the ECG, “the heavy rainstorm that hit parts of Accra and its environs yesterday evening (25th March 2025) has caused some outages within our network.”

The company has assured its customers that its engineers are working tirelessly to repair the faults and restore the power supply.

“We wish to assure all affected customers that our engineers are working assiduously to repair the faults and restore power supply,” the statement read.

The ECG has also apologized for the inconvenience caused, stating that “the inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”

This is not the first time that a rainstorm has caused widespread power outages in Accra.

In recent years, the city has experienced several instances of severe weather, resulting in damage to the power grid and disruption to the electricity supply.

The ECG has faced criticism in the past for its handling of power outages, with some customers accusing the company of being slow to respond to faults.

However, the company has maintained that it is working to improve its services and reduce the frequency and duration of power outages.

As the people of Accra wait for power to be restored, many are left wondering when the next outage will occur.

However, the ECG has urged its customers to be patient and to report any faults or outages to its customer service team.

In the meantime, the company has provided its customers with a platform to report outages and faults through its official social media handles, @ECGghOfficial, and website.
