American rapper Ja Rule’s recent visit to Ghana has stirred up nostalgia among music lovers after he made a surprising revelation about two of his long-forgotten collaborations with Ghanaian musicians.
During an interview with JoyNews’ Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah, Ja Rule shared an interesting titbit about a song he recorded with a Ghanaian artist over a decade ago, but couldn’t remember the name of the artist involved.
Ja Rule described the experience, saying, “You know, it’s so funny to say that I did a record a long time ago with a Ghanaian artiste.
I have forgotten his name, but this is like ten, fifteen years ago when I came over here. And we recorded right here in their studio, and it was dope.”
Despite his inability to recall the artist’s name, Ja Rule hinted that he was open to further collaborations with Ghanaian musicians, especially given the global rise of Afrobeats.
Not long after his interview, an old video resurfaced online, showing Ja Rule in a studio session with Ghanaian rapper Tinny.
The collaboration, titled “Good Time Rules,” was recorded years ago, but never officially released. The song was created during Tinny’s peak years in the mid-2000s when he was dominating the Ghanaian music scene with hits like “Makola Kwakwe,” “Anaconda,” and “Obi Do Ba.”
The collaboration was made under Tinny’s record label, Maddhaus Entertainment.
In a 2015 interview with YFM, Tinny had explained that the song was never officially released due to the rights being owned by Maddhaus Entertainment.
“I did that record when I was with this record label called Maddhaus Entertainment and so they own that record. Everything is with them, and they will decide to release it or not,” Tinny revealed.
He further added that Ja Rule had loved his music when he was introduced to him by his management and they decided to record the song together at Maddhaus studio.
However, due to legal restrictions, Tinny confirmed that he did not own the rights to the track, meaning he could not release it independently.
Another song that has surfaced recently, which also features Ja Rule, is “Hey Love,” a track produced and performed by Ghanaian artist Morris Babyface in 2009.
The song had been circulating on social media for some time but gained newfound attention following Ja Rule’s interview.
This collaboration adds to the growing list of works Ja Rule has done with Ghanaian artists, although they were previously less known to the public.
