Let’s Hold Our Leaders Accountable- Napo

Former Energy Minister and 2024 NPP Running Mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, has issued a rallying cry to Africans to demand more from their leaders in the quest for sustainability.

Speaking at the Alliance for Science Global Consortium meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, the former Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP emphasized the urgent need for Africa to achieve economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection.

According to Napo, sustainability is not an option, but an obligation that requires collective action.

He stressed the importance of embracing political leadership that champions sustainability in all sectors, but also noted that political champions alone cannot drive change.

“We need citizens, businesses, and institutions to hold leaders accountable,” Napo said.

“We must all demand sustainable policies, participate in green initiatives, and make responsible choices in our daily lives.”

Napo’s call to action is particularly significant given the sustainability challenges facing Africa.

The continent is home to some of the world’s most biodiverse regions, such as the chakra system in Ecuador, which covers 30,000 hectares and is inhabited by indigenous communities.

However, Africa is also vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including droughts, floods, and heatwaves.

To address these challenges, Napo is advocating for a multi-stakeholder approach that involves governments, businesses, civil society, and individuals.

He believes that by working together, Africans can create a sustainable future that benefits all.

“These useful discussions will go a long way to reposition our continent for a sustainable future,” Napo said. “I am excited to have been part of this engagement.”
