Mahama Approves 2025 Budget

In a significant development, the cabinet has approved the 2025 budget, paving the way for its presentation to Parliament by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

This move is seen as a crucial step towards addressing Ghana’s prevailing economic challenges and prioritizing key areas of the John Mahama administration.

According to Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the budget is designed to stabilize the economy and foster sustainable growth.

The financial plan is expected to tackle the country’s energy shortfall, with the Cabinet approving the construction of a second gas processing plant.

This project is part of a series of measures aimed at addressing Ghana’s energy challenges in the short, medium, and long term.

The approval of the 2025 budget comes after Parliament passed a provisional budget of GHC68.1 billion to sustain government operations until the end of March 2025.

This provisional budget was necessary to avoid a government shutdown, and it will fund critical government functions, including tax refunds, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

The Mahama administration has emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability, with Felix Kwakye Ofosu reassuring Ghanaians that the financial plan is focused on sustainable growth and economic stability.

The administration has also denied allegations of appointing excessive presidential staffers, with Kwakye Ofosu stating that only 30 staffers have been appointed, significantly lower than the previous government’s numbers.
