Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu,
President John Dramani Mahama Government has come under intense scrutiny over the ongoing construction of the Hajj Village, with many Ghanaians expressing outrage over the use of state funds for the project.
In a bid to quell the controversy, Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, took to social media to clarify the government’s position.
“FACT: The Hajj Village is primarily an Airport Terminal Building for check-in and pilgrim facilitation owned and being built by the Ghana Airport Company. Not a pesewa of taxpayers’ money involved,” Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated in a post on his Facebook page.
However, this explanation has been met with skepticism, with many questioning the government’s involvement in the project.
Critics argue that the Ghana Airport Company is not a private entity, but rather a state-owned company, and therefore, the government’s claim that no taxpayer money is involved is misleading.
The controversy surrounding the Hajj Village has also highlighted the apparent double standard of some Christians who opposed to the construction of the National Cathedral during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
The National Cathedral project was met with fierce resistance from some Christian groups, who argued that state funds should not be used for the project.
President John Mahama cut the sod for the project last week even though the previous government initiated it and work was ongoing.
