Mahama Nominates 76 MMDCEs

In a move to strengthen local governance, President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 76 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) out of a total of 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country.

This strategic action represents a critical mechanism of local democratic representation, underscoring Ghana’s commitment to democratic governance.

The nomination process is meticulously grounded in Ghana’s robust legal infrastructure, with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) providing comprehensive legislative provisions for transparent leadership selection.

The official documentation highlights the reference number OPS 325/25/1246, issued by the Office of the President and authenticated by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President.

The nominated MMDCEs will be responsible for spearheading local development initiatives, implementing district-level strategic plans, driving economic and social progress at the community level, and bridging national policy with local implementation.

However, their appointments are pending approval from the respective Assemblies, ensuring local stakeholder involvement in leadership selection and providing a checks-and-balance mechanism for executive nominations.
