Mahama Probes Recruitment In Security Services

In a bid to ensure transparency and accountability in the recruitment process of the security services, the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has inaugurated a seven-member committee to review recruitment processes into the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and other agencies under the Ministry.

The committee, composed of seasoned professionals with extensive experience in security administration, public service, and the law, has been tasked with assessing the transparency, fairness, and integrity of the recruitment processes.

They are also expected to evaluate compliance with due processes and recommend measures to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

The move by the Interior Minister is seen as a significant step towards addressing concerns raised by various stakeholders regarding the recruitment processes into Ghana’s security services.

The committee, which is expected to complete its work within two weeks, will review the recruitment processes undertaken by the various security agencies, including those currently under training.

They will also evaluate compliance with due process and recommend measures to ensure compliance with laid-down procedures for recruitment.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s security services are professional, efficient, and capable of safeguarding the nation.

He noted that concerns had been raised regarding transparency, fairness, efficiency, and integrity in the recruitment processes, and that the committee’s work is aimed at addressing these concerns.

The Chairman of the Committee, Yaw Akrasi Sarpong, assured the Minister and the public that the committee would work diligently to deliver a comprehensive report.

He expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the opportunity to serve on the committee and pledged to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the committee’s work.

The composition of the committee includes experienced professionals such as COP (Rtd.) Bright Oduro, DCO (Rtd.) Eric Afari, DDP (Rtd.) Ben Lartey, Lawyer Elsie Appau, DCFO (Rtd.) Paa Kwesi Adutwum, and Alexander Twum-Barimah Esq., who will serve as the Secretary.
