President John Dramani Mahama has sacked the current Service Chiefs of the Ghana Armed Forces, appointing fresh ones in their place.
This development was announced in a statement released by the Presidency.
The statement indicated that the new appointments would take effect from March 24, 2025.
According to the statement, Brigadier General William Agyapong has been appointed as the Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, while Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu will take over as the Acting Chief of Army Staff.
Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing has been appointed the Acting Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong will serve as the Acting Chief of Air Staff.
Additionally, Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan has been appointed as the Acting Chief of Staff.
The outgoing Service Chiefs, led by General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, met with President Mahama at the Jubilee House, where the President expressed his gratitude for their dedicated service to the nation.
President Mahama assured them that he would rely on their experiences and knowledge to “reset Ghana”.
This shake-up in the Ghana Armed Forces’ leadership comes after General Thomas Oppong-Peprah and other commanders were appointed by President Akuffo-Addo in January 2024.
