Felix Amoah, a 39-year-old resident of Doba in the Kassena Nankana Municipality, has been jailed 21 months for stealing power cables worth GHC195,000 belonging to the Ghana Water Company.
The Navrongo District Court, presided over by Famous Yao Amenyo, handed down the sentence after finding Amoah guilty of unlawful damage and stealing.
The court’s decision was based on evidence presented during the trial, which revealed that Amoah was present in Doba on October 13, 2023, when the theft incident occurred.
Amoah’s defence was deemed inconsistent, and he later admitted to the crime under cross-examination. Furthermore, traces of the stolen cables were found in his house in Doba.
In addition to the prison sentence, Amoah has been ordered to return the stolen cables to the Ghana Water Company or pay the equivalent value of GHC195,000.
His wife, Azamseyam Kadou, who was also part of the suit, was acquitted and discharged due to lack of evidence linking her to the crime.
