Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has forcefully disassociated himself from what he describes as “false and malicious statements” circulating on social media purporting to quote him from the yet-to-be-released report of the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee of the New Patriotic Party, NPP.
In an official disclaimer issued from his office at Parliament House, Afenyo-Markin described the alleged quotes as entirely fabricated, calling out the orchestrators behind the falsehoods, particularly singling out one Issah Ourodjabor Dikeni Ibrahim as being at the center of the misinformation campaign.
I Did Not Appear Before the Committee
“Let me state, unequivocally and for the record that I did not appear before the Committee at any point during its work, neither did I submit a written statement and, as such, could not have made any submissions or statements to be captured in the said report,” the Minority Leader wrote.
He added that any suggestions or publications to the contrary were deliberate attempts to malign his reputation.
Alleged Quotes a “Complete Fabrication”
The statement from the Effutu MP further rejected the supposed page references and insider commentary being circulated online as part of the alleged report.
“These fictitious posts purport to attribute comments to myself and other respected members of our Party, supposedly captured on pages of a document that has not been made public,” Afenyo-Markin noted.
“These malicious claims, including supposed page numbers and invented quotes, are entirely false and have no basis in truth or fact.”
Report Still Unpublished
Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the Prof. Oquaye Committee Report has not been released to the public or any organ within the NPP, echoing earlier clarifications made by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
“As has already been clarified by our General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP has not released or disclosed any portion of the Prof. Oquaye Committee Report to any person, group, or organ within or outside the Party,” the Minority Leader reiterated.
He explained that only one copy of the report was submitted to the National Council through the Party’s National Chairman and General Secretary and is still being studied internally.
Malice and Political Mischief
Afenyo-Markin described the spreaders of the fake quotes as individuals driven by “malice and political mischief,” adding that many of them are well-known sympathizers of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The individuals and entities circulating them are acting with clear malice and political mischief, and it is no coincidence that many of them are known activists or sympathisers of the NDC,” he stated.
A Call to Focus on 2028
Despite the distraction, the Minority Leader urged members of the NPP and the general public to ignore the fabrications and remain focused on the Party’s core mission.
“These tactics will not distract us from the critical task of renewing and strengthening our Party ahead of the 2028 general elections. I urge the general public and party faithful to treat these baseless posts with the contempt they deserve,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to unity within the party and its preparation for the upcoming electoral contests:
“We remain focused on rebuilding a stronger, united NPP that can deliver victory in 2028 and beyond.”
The Oquaye Committee
The Oquaye Committee was set up by the NPP to investigate internal grievances following the Party’s performance in the 2024 elections. Its findings and recommendations have been the subject of speculation, with snippets alleged to be from the report surfacing online.
However, the Party leadership maintains that the report has not yet been made public, and any excerpts in circulation are unverified and unofficial.
