Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has visited former Bank of Ghana Governor, Ernest Addison, whose Roman Ridge house was raided by National Security operatives led by Richard Jakpa.
The raid, which occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge property in Accra, has been widely condemned.
According to eyewitnesses, the heavily armed men numbering over 20, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, arrived at the property and immediately disabled the CCTV system.
They then demanded that Dr. Addison lead them to the “vaults” in his house.
Dr. Addison, who was reportedly shocked, calmly informed the team that he had no vaults or large amounts of cash in his home.
The Minority Leader took to his Facebook page to express his outrage over the raid.
“It started with Abronye. Now it’s Okatakyie Afrifa. The NDC Government must be tolerant! Using State Security to intimidate opponents is not good for our democracy! Okatakyie Afrifa must be released now!!!” he wrote.
This incident is not the first time the NDC government has been accused of using state security to intimidate opponents.
The Minority Leader’s statement highlights the growing concern over the government’s actions.
In a previous incident, the Minority Leader had criticized the Bank of Ghana’s handling of a $261 million issue, citing alleged lapses during Johnson Asiama’s tenure as deputy governor.
However, the current incident involving Dr. Addison’s home raid has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for an end to state-sponsored intimidation.
The visit by the Minority Leader to Dr. Addison’s home is a show of solidarity and support for the former Governor, who has been subjected to unnecessary trauma and intimidation.
