Minority Slams Mahama Over Insecurity, Calls for Emergency Solutions

The Minority in Parliament has slammed President John Dramani Mahama over the growing insecurity in Ghana, calling for emergency solutions to address the menace.

According to the Minority, the country has witnessed a surge in violent crimes and lawlessness since President Mahama took office in 2024.

The Minority cited a report by Altezza Travel, a global tourism firm, which ranked Ghana as the second safest destination in Africa in 2025.

However, the Minority noted that this ranking is at odds with the growing insecurity in the country.

“Under President Akufo-Addo, a deliberate policy and planning had enhanced Ghana’s peace and security. However, since President Mahama took office, several acts of lawlessness and violence have erupted in the country,” the Minority stated.

The Minority listed several incidents of violence and lawlessness that have occurred in the country, including the burning of the Electoral Commission office in Ayensuano, the standoff at the Ghana Gas Headquarters, and the killing of a final-year student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

“These incidents are a clear indication that the country is drifting towards chaos and lawlessness,” the Minority warned.

The Minority also expressed concern over the inability of the Electoral Commission to conclude the Ablekuma Parliamentary Election declaration due to the insecurity situation in the area.

“This is a dark spot in our democratic dispensation, and it is unacceptable that the people of Ablekuma are currently without a representative in Parliament,” the Minority stated.

The Minority called on President Mahama to take immediate action to address the growing insecurity in the country.

“The President must act, and indeed, action is required now. The security agencies must be empowered to deal with the thugs and hoodlums who are causing chaos and destruction in the country,” the Minority demanded.

The Minority also expressed concern over the selective application of justice in the country, where former officials of the NDC government who were on judicial trials have been cleared of all criminal charges against them.

“Today, we are being told that crime has party colors, and our country has been turned into an Animal Farm where ‘Four legs good, Two legs bad’,” the Minority lamented.

In conclusion, the Minority called on President Mahama to take a decisive stance against insecurity and lawlessness in the country.

“The President must not only condemn these acts of violence and lawlessness but must also take concrete steps to address the root causes of these problems,” the Minority stated.
