NDC Hot Over Kotoka Airport Cocaine Saga

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is fuming over recent allegations tied to suspected drug trafficking through Ghana’s premier aviation hub- Kotoka International Airport.

What started as a press conference by the parliamentary Minority has escalated into a full-blown political brawl, pitting the NDC against Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who insists the government is hiding crucial details surrounding the arrival of two controversial aircraft from a drug trafficking hub.

The controversy centers on two flights—AirMed flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov AN-12B—which reportedly landed in Accra between March 20 and 25, 2025.

According to Rev. Fordjour, these aircraft carried “cocaine and large amounts of U.S. currency,” accusations that have since stirred not just political ire but threats of legal action, media scrutiny, and demands for accountability at the highest levels.

The Accusation

On JoyNews’ Newsfile program on April 5, Sammy Gyamfi, NDC National Communications Officer and Acting MD of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) launched a fiery attack on Fordjour, calling his claims “falsehoods” and “irresponsible.”

“You have lied, you have proven to be totally reckless and irresponsible and if you had a conscience, you would be apologizing for that lie,” Gyamfi said live on air, referring to John Ntim Fordjour’s cocaine flight allegations.

Sammy Gyamfi argued that the Minority’s claims were based on suspicion and lacked any concrete intelligence.

“It’s just suspicion masquerading as intelligence,” he stated.

Fordjour Fights Back

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has denied any wrongdoing and pushed back aggressively.

Following his appearance on Newsfile, a viral video suggested he walked out in protest—but the MP says that narrative is false.

“I never walked out of Newsfile contrary to what Samson Ayenini and Sammy Gyamfi put out,” Rev John Fordjour clarified on social media.

“I was billed for only a particular segment and was told another panelist was billed to take over after my segment.”

Calling the video “staged” and “false,” he accused host Samson Lardy Ayenini of biased moderation.

“Please disregard his claim and the false video of Sammy Gyamfi—it was staged, not coincidence,” Fordjour added.

Government Strikes Back

Government officials have since weighed in, escalating the confrontation.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, described Fordjour as a “noisemaker” on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen and suggested the MP was trying to manufacture a scandal.

“The investigation is just so that an example will be set, for people to refrain from such behavior,” Kwakye Ofosu remarked, implying the probe was more about deterrence than truth.

Fordjour responded with threats of legal action. “I have taken judicial notice of that statement and I am going to sue Kwakye Ofosu,” he said.

“This is a willful attempt to prosecute and cause harm. These are enough evidence.”

The Background

Rev. Ntim Fordjour has been relentless in questioning government transparency. He alleged that National Security intercepted 12 containers on February 9, reportedly carrying gold and foreign currency—an incident he believes has been deliberately kept under wraps.

Speaking on Asaase Radio, Fordjour warned: “Our country cannot be allowed to be suddenly turned into a hub for cocaine and money laundering. They must come again.”

He has also raised concerns over an alleged $500 million drug bust that has seen minimal public discourse.

Calling for a joint parliamentary briefing involving the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Narcotics Control Commission, he stated: “This is not a witch-hunt. It’s about the truth.”

NDC Wants Fordjour Arrested

Tensions reached boiling point when Sammy Gyamfi demanded Fordjour’s arrest live on Newsfile.

“In other jurisdictions, he would have been blacklisted,” Gyamfi argued.

“If he doesn’t honor the invitation [by National Security]… he lies bad. Because he will be arrested. Some of us will insist that he is arrested.”

John Ntim Fordjour, visibly unshaken, replied: “Sammy, I dare you to call them to come and arrest me right here in the show.”

He continued, “No security or intelligence agency has ever invited me to assist them with any information. I dare Kwakye Ofosu to produce a copy of such an invitation.”

Government Offers Evidence

To counter the storm of allegations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu shared visual evidence on social media aimed at dismantling John Ntim Fordjour’s claims.

“These pictures show engineers fixing damaged tires on the landing gear of the Air Med Aircraft at the Kotoka International Airport,” he posted.

“The damaged parts and engineers were brought in by a different aircraft, reason why it stayed here for five days. Don’t let anyone lie to you.”

In a follow-up, he wrote: “This is actual footage of the inspection of the Cavok flight by security officials at the Kotoka International Airport on arrival which shows it carried a cargo of oil drills and oil in jerrycans. Don’t let anyone lie to you and shift the goalpost when pressed for evidence.”

It is not clear while an aircraft will carry oil in jerry cans for flight.
