Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are up in arms against President John Mahama, accusing him of blackmailing them with ministerial appointments.
The party faithful are furious that despite their unwavering support, Mahama has failed to deliver on his promises, leaving them feeling used and betrayed.
At the heart of the issue is President John Dramani Mahama’s failure to appoint certain Members of Parliament (MPs) to ministerial positions, despite assurances that they would be rewarded for their loyalty.
The NDC supporters are angry that Mahama is using these appointments as a bargaining chip to manipulate them into doing his bidding.
Somanya
The NDC branch executives in Upper Manya Krobo Constituency on Tuesday, in protest, called on President John Mahama to fulfill his campaign promise by appointing their Member of Parliament, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, as a minister.
They registered their displeasure at the NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and President John Mahama’s assurance during the campaign to the people of Upper Manya Krobo that their MP would be considered for a ministerial position during the 2024 election campaigns.
The youth and party members expressed their disappointment, stating that appointing Bismark Tetteh Nyarko as a minister would boost party morale and demonstrate the NDC’s commitment to the constituency.
They urged the President and NDC leadership to honour their pledge, emphasizing that they have waited patiently.
Ashiaman
In Ashaiman, residents are slamming Mahama for failing to appoint their MP, Ernest Norgbey, to a ministerial position.
They feel that they have been faithful supporters of the NDC and deserve better.
Similar protests have erupted in Bole, where youth have burned vehicle tires in front of Mahama’s father’s residence to express their displeasure over the President’s failure to appoint their MP, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, to a ministerial position.
He was eventually given a deputy ministerial portfolio.
This development is linked to President John Mahama’s campaign promise to run a lean government with not more than 60 ministers and deputies if elected.
The NDC faithful are now holding him accountable for this promise, particularly in relation to the appointment of their MPs.
The NDC supporters are demanding that Mahama fulfill his promises and appoint their MPs to ministerial positions.
