In a strategic move to revitalize their party’s fortunes, the Minority Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) converged at the Kwahu-Nkwatia Rock City Hotel in the Eastern Region for a two-day workshop.
The event, held at the hotel owned by Abetifi MP, Bryan Acheampong, brought together some of the party’s leading figures, including former President Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. Boakye Agyarko and former Presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong.
The workshop, which took place on Wednesday, provided a platform for the NPP leaders to engage with Members of Parliament, particularly the new entrants, to brainstorm ideas ahead of the 2028 elections.
The party is still reeling from its defeat in the 2024 general elections at the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by President John Dramani Mahama.
During the workshop, the leadership of the party and the Minority Caucus shared their thoughts on the party’s activities and structure.
The discussions focused on the way forward, especially as the party prepares for internal elections, which will culminate in the selection of a presidential candidate.
The internal elections will start from the polling stations, followed by the constituencies, national, and finally the presidential polls.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and Bryan Acheampong are all eyeing the presidential slot, and the workshop provided them with an opportunity to share their vision with the MPs.
Former President Akufo-Addo also took the opportunity to share his ideas with the MPs, drawing from his experience as the party’s leader.
The workshop was seen as a crucial step in the NPP’s efforts to regroup and launch a comeback ahead of the 2028 elections.
The party’s leadership is aware that the road to recovery will be long and arduous, but they are determined to put the party back on track.
