The Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold crucial back-to-back meetings of its top decision-making bodies on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, as the party braces for key decisions ahead of next month’s annual national conference of the party.
According to a notice issued from the party’s national headquarters and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) are expected to convene at the Asante Hall of the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The NEC meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the National Council meeting at 1:00 p.m. on the same day.
This call to action comes at a time when internal discussions over campaign strategy, party unity, and unresolved tensions within the rank and file of the party are believed to be intensifying.
Sources close to the party suggest that the leadership may use the sessions to address lingering concerns over campaign financing, regional coordination, candidate support mechanisms, and preparations for the National Conference schedule for July.
Strategic Gathering of Key Figures
The NEC and NC meetings are expected to attract the party’s most influential personalities and decision-makers.
The official distribution list includes past presidents, former vice presidents, and other high-ranking former and current office holders within the party.
Among those expected to attend are National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia—who remains a key political figure after his unsuccessful presidential bid—as well as members of Parliament, regional chairpersons, and representatives from the party’s external branches.
Unity and Direction on the Table
Although the official agenda has not been publicly disclosed, it is expected that Tuesday’s deliberations will include critical updates on the party’s electoral strategy, internal cohesion, and logistical preparedness for the upcoming party internal elections.
The National Council, being the highest decision-making body of the party between National Delegates Conferences, is likely to take final decisions on recommendations emerging from the NEC meeting earlier in the day.
A Defining Moment for the NPP
The meetings come at a crucial juncture for the NPP, which is determined to regain momentum after losing the presidential race in 2024 to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, President John Dramani Mahama.
