Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, a seasoned politician and former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has assumed an active advisory and representational role on behalf of ailing Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who is currently on medical leave in London.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s first female Vice President, has temporarily stepped back from her official duties due to health reasons.
While specific details of her condition remain private, she is reported to be receiving care in the United Kingdom and is expected to return home soon.
Upon her return, she is scheduled to recuperate at the Castle Guest House in Accra, a facility known for hosting top government officials.
In her absence, Ofosu Ampofo who is Political Advisor to the Vice President has taken up the mantle of representation, stepping into a more visible role in both governmental and public engagements.
Most recently, he represented the Vice President at the launch of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE)-Ghana Strategic Plan and the Mastercard Foundation Phase II Program.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged this in a statement shared on her verified Facebook page, expressing gratitude for Ampofo’s representation.
She reiterated her commitment to gender equity in education, drawing from her personal experience as a former Chairperson of the FAWE Africa Board.
Her message underscored the importance of investing in girls’ education as a pathway to empowering the next generation of African women leaders.
According to her, the initiative is expected to benefit over 1,100 young people in Ghana, particularly girls, as part of a broader vision to foster leadership and innovation.
Despite her physical absence, the Vice President has maintained a virtual presence through her social media channels, signaling continuity in her duties and moral leadership.
A recent Easter message, signed and shared under her official title, extended warm wishes to Ghanaians and emphasized values of kindness, fairness, and inclusivity—echoing the tone she has championed throughout her tenure.
This development marks a significant moment in Ghana’s political landscape as Ofosu Ampofo, now serving as an Advisor to the Vice President, steps into the public eye in a semi-official capacity.
His involvement not only reinforces the continuity of government functions but also highlights the trust placed in him to uphold the Vice President’s vision during her medical leave.
