Okyenhene Lauds Ukraine’s Humanitarian Efforts, Calls For Global Support

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori, has commended the Ukraine Ambassador to Ghana for the country’s humanitarian efforts, particularly in the face of the ongoing conflict.

The Okyenhene’s remarks came during a donation ceremony at the Ofori Panin Fie, at Kyebi in the Eastern Region on Tuesday, where the Ukrainian Ambassador presented packaged food items to the Okyenhene for distribution to elderly women in the community.

“We are the people of history and the people who have survived all kinds of political persecution, all kinds of attacks before we got here,” the Okyenhene said, highlighting the importance of international cooperation and solidarity.

“So we’re here now and we’re a part of this great nation called Ghana, a country that was one time under the British Empire.”

The Okyenhene emphasized the need for continued support and cooperation, stating, “We cannot live in the world where because somebody lives somewhere or was born somewhere they should suffer pain and starvation to their death. I’m aware, Ambassador, that you’ve seen it all over the world before poverty is everywhere. I’m sure there are poor people in Ukraine, but this part of the world’s poverty, as you may well know, is different.”

In response, the Ukraine Ambassador, Ivan Lukachuk expressed his gratitude to the Okyenhene for the opportunity to visit the palace and present the donation.

The Ambassador also highlighted Ukraine’s commitment to global food security, despite the ongoing conflict.

“Besides the ongoing Russian aggression, Ukraine remains a reliable guarantor of world food security, and this, our joint action, is a very good witness that this is not only the words. We are not only declaring our readiness to ensure the food security of the world at this moment, the food security of African countries, food security of Ghana, but we are acting,” the Ambassador Ivan Lukachuk emphasized.

The Okyenhene praised the Ukraine Ambassador’s efforts, saying, “We the people of our children support you in the effort to live and protect your territory and to live in a free world that all of us have fought and on that note, we may not have artillery, we have no arsenal.”

Okyenhene added”we cannot provide you with the support of coercive force, we have no guns to give you, all we have and all we are never going to have in this fight for survival of Korea, and it’s our prayer, remember, there weren’t forces that were going to be able to fight for survival of Korea, and it’s our prayer, may fail, the prayer always wins.”

The donation ceremony was attended by over 500 elderly men and women from the Kyebi Communities who were given packages of food and provisions.

They also expressed gratitude to the Ukraine government and its partners for coming to their aid.
