Painter Caged For Stealing Bank Of Ghana Cables

A painter working on the new Bank of Ghana headquarters at Ridge in Accra has been remanded into police custody for allegedly stealing copper cables valued at GH₵1,035,500.

Ahmed Mohammed Lawal, the accused painter, was arrested after a review of CCTV footage revealed with two others breaking into the Energy Farm at the construction site and making off with the cables.

According to the prosecution, the complainants, Samuel Nii Tettey and Davidson Mensah Otinkorang, safety officer and electrical engineer, respectively, at the construction site, detected the theft on February 16, 2025.

A review of the CCTV footage led to the identification of Lawal and his accomplices, who were seen cutting the cables with a sharp object and taking them away.

Lawal has pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
The prosecution revealed that Lawal had sold the stolen cables to someone at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle for GH₵2,000.

However, he was unable to lead the police to his accomplices or the buyer of the stolen cables.

The court, presided over by Sedinam Awo Kwadam, has adjourned the case until March 19, 2025.

The police are still investigating the matter and are working to apprehend Lawal’s accomplices.
