A section of the clergy in Ghana has expressed deep disappointment and disillusionment with President John Dramani Mahama’s failure to appoint any pastor or clergy to the Council of State.
According to Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a former Deputy Minister of Education, the pastors helped Mahama win the election, but he has not reciprocated their support.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Rev. Fordjour stated that the clergy had expected Mahama to show appreciation for their efforts by appointing some of them to the Council of State.
However, President John Mahama’s failure to do so has left the pastors feeling disappointed and disillusioned.
The Council of State is a body established by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana to advise the President on matters of national importance.
The Council is composed of prominent citizens, including former Chief Justices, and other distinguished personalities.
In the run-up to the 2024 elections, President John Dramani Mahama had courted the support of the clergy, attending church services and seeking their blessings.
However, his failure to appoint any pastor to the Council of State has raised questions about his commitment to the clergy and their concerns.
The development has sparked a heated debate within the Christian community, with some pastors expressing disappointment and others defending Mahama’s decision.
