Richard Jakpa Raids Former BoG Governor Addison Home

The home of Dr. Ernest Addison, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, was raided by a team of heavily armed men led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

The raid, which occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Dr. Addison’s residence in Roman Ridge, Accra, has sent shockwaves across the country.

According to eyewitnesses, the team of armed men, some of whom were wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles, arrived at the property and immediately disabled the CCTV system.

They then demanded that Dr. Addison lead them to the “vaults” in his house.

Dr. Addison, who was reportedly shocked by the sudden invasion, calmly informed the team that he had no vaults or large amounts of cash in his home.

Despite this, the security personnel allegedly ransacked the house, leaving Dr. Addison, his wife, and their family traumatized.

A close associate of the Addison family described the scene as “scary and messy.”

A former retired senior official of the central bank also expressed outrage, stating, “This is the first time in the history of Ghana that such a thing is happening to a Governor of the Bank of Ghana.”

This incident marks the second time Jakpa who was going through criminal trial before the Mahama administration discontinued with case has led a raid on the home of a high-profile former appointee of the Akufo-Addo administration since Mahama took office on January 7, 2025.

Previously, the home of Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s longest-serving finance minister, was raided by over 15 armed men on February 10, 2025.

Dr. Addison, who served as Governor of the Bank of Ghana from April 2017 to March 2025, has had a distinguished career in public service, focusing on economic development, monetary policy formulation, and macroeconomic surveillance.

His leadership at the Bank of Ghana oversaw significant reforms, including a major financial sector cleanup, which strengthened corporate governance and risk management frameworks in Ghana’s financial system.

The motives behind the raid on Dr. Addison’s home remain unclear, but the incident has raised concerns about the rule of law and the treatment of former public officials in Ghana.
