Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Samuel Kwabena Awuku, affectionately called Sammi Awuku has declared war on crimes in his constituency, vowing to provide resources to support the police in their efforts to maintain law and order.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Obosomase Police Station on Monday,, Sammi Awuku emphasized the importance of community involvement in fighting crimes.
The Obosomase Police Station, a project that was initiated by the late Alex Josiah Adzew of GOIL PLC, with land generously provided by Charles Sidney Oteng.
The Police Station, was completed and furnished by Sammi Awuku, which is a testament to his commitment to providing safe neighborhoods for his constituents.
Addressing the chiefs and the residents of Obosomase, he said “True leadership is about service and community,” adding that the police station is a “beautiful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together with love and dedication”.
However, Awuku’s concerns about crimes in the constituency are pressing.
He noted that many of his constituents have been knocked down by vehicles, and that traffic on the roads is a major concern.
“We believe that we can still work in harmony with all people who are coming in to enjoy our facilities, enjoy the serenity of our place,” he said.
“All we are asking is that they also comply with the road traffic regulations”.
To address these concerns, Sammi Awuku is partnering with the police to provide additional resources and support.
“In my discussions with the regional police command and the divisional police command and the district police, I have come to the firm conclusion that I need to also help to support them to provide effective security in the neighborhoods,” he said.
Furthermore, Sammi Awuku expressed concern about the growing issue of drug addiction among young people in the constituency.
“I am determined to help nip the issue of drug addiction and crimes in the constituency and help provide safe neighborhoods for my people,” he said.
To this end, he plans to deploy security personnel to the campuses of the 10 Senior High Schools in the constituency, in partnership with the school management.
However, he called on the constituents to rally behind him to develop the constituency. “I call on all royals of Okuapeman to join me in building and uplifting our beloved community”.
