Suspected Bawku Soldier Killer Arrested

In a significant breakthrough, the Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the recent spate of attacks on military personnel in Bawku, Upper East Region.

The arrest comes just days after the tragic killing of Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2) Patran on March 17, 2025, in Avengo, a suburb of Bawku.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect put up fierce resistance during his arrest, even biting a soldier’s hand in a desperate attempt to escape.

The injured officer was immediately taken to Bawku Presbyterian Hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect is currently in military custody and is expected to assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities are optimistic that this arrest will lead to the identification and arrest of others involved in the previous attack.

“We are relieved that the suspect has been apprehended, but we also fear that political interference could lead to his release,” said a local resident, echoing the concerns of many in the community.

“We want to see justice served, and we hope that the authorities will ensure that the suspect is held accountable for his actions.”

The security situation in Bawku has remained tense in recent times, with recurrent violence now directly targeting security forces.

This has raised concerns among residents, prompting the question: Who watches the watchmen?

In response, the military, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, has intensified operations to restore calm and ensure justice for the fallen officer and his colleagues.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with investigations to ensure that all culprits are brought to justice,” said a security official. We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses,” he added.
